Math Accomplice
What can I say? I love math.
An experienced math teacher, I worked for over 17 years in a Brooklyn public middle school. I've also taught math in both upper elementary and high school classrooms. In addition to regular classroom work, I’ve organized and run after-school test prep classes for both the State Math Test and the Specialized High School Aptitude Test.
For many years I ran a lively after-school math club, The Math Squad! where students were able to improve their math skills, build their confidence as striving mathematicians, and learn to love the beauty of solving complex multi-step math problems. Why? Because nothing gives me more joy than helping a student understand and excel in math. Besides, math is fun, a beautiful thing as well as a necessary tool.
Through these years of teaching, I have developed a deep understanding of the common obstacles kids encounter, but also how to work though the particular challenges an individual student might face. I've seen how mathematical understanding progresses from one lesson to the next, throughout the school years and across the grades, and how it varies for each student. No matter what a student needs... supports to get them through a challenging concept or unit, or extra-challenging extensions on what their currently learning, I will help them build upon existing understanding and mastery so that they can build confidence, overcome current obstacles and achieve success.
Throughout my career I have worked with students at all academic challenge levels and have been committed to helping each of them achieve their full potential. While I might love math, I know not everyone does. And yet, I also know is that every student has the ability to succeed, and I am dedicated to aiding and supporting them do just that.
